Get Immediate Relief
Many people often try their hardest to avoid receiving a root canal treatment because of the pain and discomfort commonly associated with the procedure. What many don’t realize is that the pain they experience is due to the infection in the roots of their teeth, and undergoing a root canal procedure often provides immediate relief.
What is a Root Canal?
Endodontics is the dental specialty which addresses the nerves of the teeth, with root canals the most common procedure associated with it. Root canal treatment involves the removal of the tooth’s pulp, a thread-like tissue found in the center of the tooth. The pulp needs to be removed because it has been infected, either from decay or injury, and is causing a person immense discomfort. The infected pulp must be removed before further damage and pain occur.
In some cases, patients who are recommended to undergo root canal treatment by their regular dentist have to receive treatment from a separate endodontist. At the Orange Door Dental Group, your diagnosis and root canal therapy are conveniently completed in one place.
Root canal therapy is commonly completed over the course of one to three visits. After the initial oral examination, the procedure begins with a small hole drilled through the top of the tooth and into its inner chamber. From this opening, diseased tissue is fully removed. The inner chamber is then cleaned and disinfected, and the canals are reshaped.
After making sure they’re pristine, the chamber and canals are filled with elastic material to fill the gaps and to prevent infection. Depending on how severe the situation is, a dental crown may also be recommended to better protect the treated tooth.
